The 3rd International Conference on Green Architecture (ICGrA, 2025) serves as a dynamic platform for professionals, including architects, researchers, academics, and policymakers, to exchange ideas and insights on sustainability, well-being, climate-responsive and environmental experience design. Jointly organized by the Green Architecture Cell (GrACe), Department of Architecture, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and Department of Architecture, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), the conference builds on the legacy of its previous editions in fostering innovative discourse on green architecture and environmental responsibility. The conference is lead by GrACe, DoA, BUET and hosted by DoA, CUET in collaboration with the Environment and Energy Division (EED), DoA, BUET; and the Environmental Lab, DoA, CUET.
The central theme, "Healthy Buildings on the Path to nearly Zero Emission Communities (neZECom)," reflects a commitment to integrating building-level experience and well-being with broader community-scale sustainability goals. The Bengali interpretation of neZECom "Reduce self-need" - encapsulates the ethos of the conference: a transition toward low-emission futures begins with mindful reduction in individual resource demand and the adoption of responsible environmental behavior.
Within this framework, a healthy building is envisioned as more than just a structure-it is a medium for ecological balance and occupant well-being. Such buildings prioritize features, e.g., enhanced indoor comfort and air quality, effective daylighting, noise and moisture control, water and waste management, safety and security and user-centered design. They must also embody long-term sustainability by ensuring minimal energy consumption and cost across their life cycle, while supporting decarbonization and circularity from conception to deconstruction. This includes embracing regenerative systems, reuse strategies, and life-cycle thinking that reduce dependence on raw material extraction and promote a circular economy. Most importantly, the users of the building should experience a life of health and happiness, fostered by a design that nurtures physical comfort, psychological well-being, and social engagement in a harmonious environment.
ICGrA 2025 invites diverse contributions that reflect critical innovation, scientific insight, and bold visions for the future of green, healthy, and nearly zero-emission communities. Through presentations, workshops, and exhibitions, the conference aims to drive practical action, inform policy, and strengthen academic and professional collaboration across disciplines.
We look forward to meeting you at the ICGrA - 2025.
